I’m doing the dd on USCMF and it’s intriguing enough with the need the U.S. has on gallium. My concern is their main focus is exploration and development. Will that produce enough revenue to make this company profitable with no mfg? Current Price/Book=34 which is high for mining companies which avg 1-3. For exploration, if a very large lode is discovered as is expected at Spring Creek, how it will be extracted and the market for the material it could generate a good investment at .30. RSI 49 (14) and 62 (30).

No, he personally likes bullying and insulting others. He likes being in a position of strength. He expected to bully and that China would ‘surrender’ and where are we now? China acted exactly as expected. The US slapped heavy restrictions on chip exports and forced ASML to halt EUV sales. Retaliation from China could easily hit other supply chains where it has leverage  and spoiler alert: it has a lot of leverage, lol.

China basically controls the low- to mid-tier layers of global supply chains :  the raw materials, components, and processing steps that make everything else possible. The US still holds the high tier : chip design, lithography, advanced R&amp;D.  But  China is already breaking into those upper layers, or gearing up hard to do so.

As for rare earths, they’re not as critical as people think. Australia can still produce them, and with AUKUS, well… the US could always trade nuclear subs for REEs. Expensive and awkward, sure  but that’s the price of challenging a peer superpower.

The biggest weakness right now might be the economy. You saw what happened to the stock market when Trump merely *threatened* 100% tariffs :   a lot of wealth evaporated overnight. As tensions escalate, that kind of shock could keep repeating, potentially triggering a melt down  even without any real supply chain disruption actually taken place...

The U.S. hasn’t been sitting still either, holds the number two slot and increasing. It has invested in $MP to expand their operations, and likely has shell companies to buy it behind the scenes.

Then when all else fails Australia hold the 3rd slot and its mining sector is one of the strongest on earth.

Should the U.S. have waited and slowly fixed its rare earth metals fix? Unquestionably yes, but everyone’s acting like the U.S. military industrial complex wasn’t aware of this.

Multiple sources of revenue from both the government and private sector, are working to deal with the US’s shortage. They’ll likely be pain for a while but money will flood in to increase production and diversify from China.

I think the availability of the raw rare earth metals is not the issue but the refining of these as the final product. China is having monopoly of the technology for this. I just wonder why the US or the other super powers did not manage to lessen the reliance to China considering that this directly affects their Armed Forces and National Defense (missiles and jetfighter technologies)

I'm invested in UUUU, but the rare earths sector feels like a meme sector at the moment. It's hard for me to see how expected future cash flows can justify these valuations - they could stay pumped for a little while, but mining is a capital-intensive industry where uneconomic projects will be found out eventually and there's a reason most of these rare earths projects were on the floor until this year. It's not like Tesla where you can constantly promise jam tomorrow.

I think $USAR is an excellent choice to gain exposure to a company involved with rare earth metals. Beyond the main theme itself, there are numerous rumors about a potential partial stake acquisition by the U.S. government. Even the CEO mentioned it on television.

Rare earth is probably the most effective leverage China has against the US, it will be stupid for China to let the US build up its Rare earth supply chain domestically so to lose the leverage. It's just a tactical move to make a better tariff deal.

The rare earth stocks may still run up but will definitely fade in the long run.

Bought into USAR because they have a promising future here in the US. Also bought WWR. China is flexing because laws were passed that forces the US to buy more graphite to make batteries. They basically used the tariffs to equal out the graphite cost so US producers will gain market share. This is very good for WWR. MP and USAR will become Wallstreet darlings because they are set up to mine. I don't believe Fridays tweet was Trump truly announcing something from China. These stocks have been moving up for the past few months. China realizes they are losing their leverage and the move to limit minerals from them has been foreseen because of the tariffs and laws passed. It's very clear the US is moving fast to get minerals from other sources. Makes me believe these stocks will run.

Unlike tariffs, which can apparently be flipped on and off with a switch, we are now realizing that China can and will play the rare earth card on us. 

This is important because we need rare earth, and HREEs in particular, for national defense purposes. So this isn't really a matter of not being able to sell soybeans to China so we try to find alternative buyers in Latin America. This is more like we need these HREEs for our missiles and guidance systems and there's nowhere else to get them right now. 

Things are pumping pretty fast but what other choice do we have? Once our stockpile of HREEs are gone, are we not going to build missiles anymore? The government really has no choice but to encourage domestic development and processing because it's actually a national security issue (as in a real one and not "national security" to get around limitations of the executive branch).

My understanding, there are light and heavy minerals, China is dominating in heavy and those aren't easily replaceable (for instance I readh that Dysprosium and Terbium are produced almost only in China). 

So I hope someone is checking which deposits each company is covering.

Money rules until there is a reason for it no to.  Now that even the worst Rep critics are realizing that China has a stranglehold in which they can hold the entire world at their knees, everyone is wising up.  So, for now, money isn't going to rule the rare earth market.  Once things stabilize and full supply production is transferred away from China to a point America's interests are protected, we will go back to not caring about rare earths and where they are produced.  So, the topic isn't short-term and there is a lot of money to be had.  But investing in American production of rare earths is probably not the best long-term idea as it's a sexy thing to say now but 10 years from now when the full supply chain of rare earths is back to being cheapest in cheap countries, it will still be too impractical to produce in American borders and thus American companies will suffer.  Trump is doing his best to try to undo this but too many people are resisting him and are very happy with the US being beholden to the rest of the world for supplies.

I don't think China will limit exports in a meaningful way until there is an active war that threatens their existence. So all this is just hysteria. It's such a defcon 1 moment they would not really do it until they have no choice. There's plenty of other paths to gain leverage in trade.

Trump is an idiot, but we also need to distance ourselves from China. China unilaterally imposed a rare earth embargo on Japan when a territorial dispute arose in 2010. We should not depend on them.

By the way, Japan used to depend on China for 90% of its rare earths, but now that number has dropped to 50%.
Japan is also developing ways to reduce its consumption of rare earths.
America could do the same.

- in past history, China had things that the west wanted, tea and porcelains. But China has limited trade. Opium war and later, scramble for China, they got what they wanted.
- The US (and West) has restricted access to high end semiconductor manufacturing equipment and also the most advanced computer chips.
- China has been working on creating chip manufacturing capabilities domestically. 
- The new REE restrictions put in by China, what would be the reason?

  - China is confident with progress they made in the efforts and now trying to hinder the west.
  - or perhaps they hit the wall in their efforts and try to use the restrictions as a bargaining chip.

- Any deal made would be temporary. China once extracted needed technology from ASML, etc will try to wean off foreign companies. The US and its allies will try to set up an independent supply chain to remove the critical dependence.

- Another approach for the West is to recreate the Scramble for China.
